An easy last minute veggie side dish for dinner!

How to cook frozen green beans on your stove top that taste amazing. I’ve never been a fan of frozen vegetables because it seems nearly impossible to cook them as good as fresh, especially if you like your veggies crispy as opposed to soggy. Frozen green beans are the exception.

Cooked frozen green beans on a plate ready to eat.

Because these yummy green veggies are a family favorite, I’ve been experimenting with them for years, and after some trial and error, have fine tuned how to easily cook frozen green beans to perfection. It’s convenient to have this freezer staple on hand so that you always have something healthy to serve with dinner. Fresh vegetables spoil quickly and It’s not practical to hit the grocery store EVERY DAY for seasonal produce.

Any frozen green beans can be used to make this healthy side dish including cut, whole, or petite.

Ingredients

  • Any frozen green beans
  • water
  • olive oil
  • butter
  • seasoning of choice

Step 1Place the green beans into a non-stick pan that preferably has a lid so that they can steam quickly. It’s also easier to remove the water without the use of a stainer if you have a lid. Nobody wants extra dirty dishes to wash!

Step 2Place a small amount of water into the pan and bring it to a boil. Cover and cook for about 5 minutes or until the green beans become tender but not too soft.

Step 3Thoroughly drain the hot water and then add oil and butter to the pan. I use about a tablespoon of each for a standard 12oz bag of green beans. You want them to be fully covered but not too greasy. The oil keeps the green beans from sticking to the pan, and the butter adds delicious flavor.

Step 4Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, or anything else you’d like and then sauté the green beans over medium-high heat, stirring often, until they are done to your liking. My family has a thing for Tony Chachere’s Creole seasoning. Like it says on the bottle, it’s great on everything!

Enjoy this quick and easy vegetable side dish with just about anything! It pairs well with a variety of family dinners including chicken dishes, ground beef casseroles, pastas, potatoes, steak, and more.

Below is a photo of the whole petite style green beans cooked the same way. Both are great choices! If you end up making this frozen veggie often, Costco sells a large bag of organic green beans that will last you for months. No more last minute trips to the grocery store because you’re missing a veggie!

You’ll notice these delicious green beans featured as a side dish in many of my dinner recipes, including the following popular meals.

How To Make The Best Frozen Green Beans

The easiest and most delicious way to make frozen green beans taste as good as fresh! This stovetop recipe is fast to prepare for a last minute vegetable side dish that pairs well with just about anything you have planned for dinner.
Prep Time1 minute min
Cook Time10 minutes mins
Course: Side Dish
Keyword: easy recipes, vegetable side dish

Ingredients

  • frozen green beans (any kind in any amount)
  • water
  • olive oil
  • butter
  • seasoning to taste

Instructions

  • Place the frozen green beans into a non-stick pan that contains a lid. Pour in just enough water to partially submerge them. Place the lid on and bring to a boil. Cook for about 5-8 minutes or until the green beans are tender but not too soft.
  • Thoroughly drain the hot water and then add oil and butter to the pan. I use about a tablespoon of each for a standard 12oz bag of green beans. You want them to be fully covered but not too greasy.
  • Season to your liking with salt, pepper, garlic powder, creole seasoning, or anything else you'd like.
  • Sauté over medium high-heat, stirring regularly, for 5+ minutes or until they are done to your liking.

Notes

  • The reason I use both oil and butter for this recipe is because the oil prevents the green beans from sticking to the pan and the butter adds amazing flavor.
  • My family is obsessed with Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning. It's great on everything! It's a yummy replacement for salt that's not too spicy, even for kids.
  • If you don't own a skillet with a lid, no problem! You can boil them the same way without a lid, they just take a bit longer to cook and you'll want to toss them a bit since you won't have the steam effect. Use a strainer to remove the water once finished.
